- Designed specifically for the M1 Carbine, a
- weapon intended as an effective field replacement
- for the .45 M1911A1 Semi-Auto pistol, the .30 M1
- Carbine cartridge was effectively used by U.S.
- troops in W.W. II. However, compared with the
- pistol, the carbine was viewed as large and
- bulky, and as a longarm, it was considered far
- less desirable to carry into combat than the more
- powerful M1 Garand (.30-06).
-
- The firearm and cartridge became popular
- after the war years, creating a market for many
- civilian models. It's use as a hunting round is
- limited however, as deer-sized game are better
- left for more powerful cartridges. On the other
- hand, it's retort is not large and the recoil
- tolerable by almost anyone. It is a very
- pleasant cartridge for beginners to practice
- with.
